Porcelain & Zirconia Crowns

Home / Porcelain Crowns

A strong, natural-looking way to restore a tooth

Porcelain and zirconia dental crowns cover the entire visible portion of a tooth and function like a natural tooth. They are commonly used after root canal therapy, on top of a dental implant, or to repair cracks, chips, and deep decay.

When a crown helps

  • Hold a large filling in place
  • Anchor a dental bridge
  • Protect a tooth at risk of breaking
  • Cover a tooth after a root canal
  • Restore teeth worn down by grinding
  • Top a dental implant for a missing tooth

Porcelain vs. zirconia

Porcelain

A classic choice with a natural, translucent finish. Often used on front teeth where appearance is the priority.

Zirconia

Made from zirconium dioxide. Exceptionally strong, biocompatible, and metal-free — ideal for back teeth and patients with allergies.

The procedure

We numb the area, gently shape the tooth to make space, and take a digital scan or impression. With CEREC® technology many crowns are designed and placed in a single visit; otherwise a temporary crown is fitted while the lab fabricates the permanent one. We check the bite and color, then bond it in place for a finish that looks and feels like your own tooth.

FAQs

+ What are porcelain & zirconia dental crowns?

Tooth-shaped caps placed over a damaged tooth to restore strength, function, and appearance. Both materials look natural and are custom-made to match your smile.

+ What is the difference?

Porcelain crowns look very natural but can be slightly less durable. Zirconia crowns are more resistant to chips and cracks. Both have advantages depending on tooth location and your goals.

+ Are zirconia crowns better than porcelain?

Zirconia is stronger and lasts longer, especially on back teeth. Porcelain is often used on front teeth where appearance matters most.

+ How long do crowns last?

With proper care, zirconia crowns can last 15+ years. Porcelain crowns typically last 10–15 years. Regular dental visits and good hygiene help them last longer.

+ Do zirconia crowns look natural?

Yes. Zirconia is translucent and blends with neighboring teeth. We adjust the color to match your smile.

+ Can I get a crown if I have metal allergies?

Yes — especially zirconia. It is metal-free and biocompatible, so it is unlikely to trigger an allergic reaction.
